BSD students cannot open YouTube directly with their district accounts. Teachers can share videos by embedding them in Google Classroom, Google Slides, or another approved learning platform.
A pasted YouTube link is not the same as an embedded video. Have students play the video inside the classwork or slide rather than opening YouTube.
Google Classroom
- Open your class and select Classwork > Create.
- Choose Material or Assignment and enter the details.
- Select Add > YouTube. Search for the video or enter its YouTube URL, then add the video.
- Post or assign the classwork. Students should play the attached video in Classroom.
Google Slides
- Open the slide where you want the video.
- Select Insert > Video.
- Find the YouTube video, select it, and insert it.
- Share the presentation with the students who need it. Have them play the video within the slide.
If students cannot play the video
Check that you inserted a video rather than a plain link. Some videos restrict embedded playback, and district filtering still applies. Submit a help ticket with the video URL, classwork or slide link, and the exact error. Do not ask students to use a personal account to get around a restriction.
