How do I set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for my District Microsoft account?
- Go to https://myaccount.boiseschools.org/
- Select ‘Register’
- In the ‘Security info’ tab, select ‘Add sign-in method.’
- The ‘Add a method’ menu will appear.
- For the best security, we recommend using two authentication methods. For one of these, consider an Authenticator app (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator App). You can find it in your mobile phone's app store.
- Follow the on screen steps to set up your chosen MFA method. One method must be an Authenticator app, Phone, or Security key.

More Information about MFA
What is MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)?
MFA, sometimes called 2-Step Verification, is a simple yet effective security measure that requires you to provide two or more verification factors to access an account, rather than just a password. You likely already use MFA with your personal accounts, such as your banking login or personal Microsoft or Apple Account. The multiple factors include a combination of two or more of the following:
- Something you know, like a password or PIN.
- Something you have, like a smartphone or a security key.
- Something you ‘are’, like a fingerprint or facial recognition.
Why should I use MFA?
MFA provides an extra layer of security for both your personal data and our students' information. MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive and valuable information. According to Microsoft, MFA reduces the risk of being hacked by 99.9%. By embracing this change, you are taking a crucial step towards safeguarding our digital environment and ensuring a safer learning space for our students.
How often will I be prompted for my MFA?
When signing into a device, your login will remain active for approximately 14 days, eliminating the need for daily multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompts.
I don’t have a cell phone, desk phone, or personal email that I can use for MFA. What can I do?
