Use these steps when a district Mac opens Setup Assistant. Keep it connected to power and Wi-Fi while setup and app downloads finish.
Set up the Mac
Setup pictures are district examples. Prompts may vary by macOS version and district settings.
Use the assigned user’s account: the first person who signs in becomes the Mac’s assigned user. For a shared Mac, stop before sign-in and contact the Help Desk with its serial number.
- Turn on the Mac if needed. Choose English, then United States and click Continue.
- At Safety & Handling, click Continue.
- At Accessibility, click Not Now. If you need accessibility features, configure them here instead.
- Connect to BSD-Guest at school, or your Wi-Fi network if you are elsewhere. Click Continue.
- At Device Management, click Enroll. Leave the Mac on Wi-Fi while district settings install.
Click Enroll on the district Device Management screen.
- At Select Your Time Zone, turn on Set time zone automatically using current location.
- If prompted, click Turn On Location Services, then Continue.

- At the Microsoft Sign in screen, have the assigned user sign in with their Boise Schools account.
- Keep the Mac on Wi-Fi for a few minutes while district apps finish installing.

Open your apps
For approved apps, open Finder > Applications > Manager. Select Self-Service, then My Apps. Students can install available apps; ask a teacher if an app is missing.
If you need help
If enrollment fails, sign-in stops, or apps do not arrive, students should ask their teacher; staff should contact the Help Desk with the error and serial number. The serial number is on the underside of the Mac, or in Apple menu > About This Mac after sign-in.
