If an app or website is not working on your iPad, save any open work and try these checks. Stop when the problem is fixed.
Check the basics
- Make sure the device has power and is connected to Wi-Fi. Check any connected cables.
- For a Chrome problem, save your work, then reload the page using the circular-arrow button near the address bar. Try another website to see whether the problem affects one site or all sites.
Close and reopen the problem app
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, pause in the middle, then lift your finger to see open apps (Exposé). On an older iPad with a Home button, double-click Home.
- Find the problem app and swipe its preview up to close it.
- Open the app again and retry. You only need to close the app that is having trouble. iPadOS manages the other apps in the background.
To restart: open Settings > General > Shut Down, then drag the slider. Wait 30 seconds, then hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
Swipe the problem app preview upward to close it. Image: Apple Support.
Ask for help
Students should tell their teacher. Staff can submit a Help Desk request with the app or website, exact error, and steps already tried. Include a screenshot if it helps, with private information hidden.
Find the serial number: open Settings > General > About. Use the serial number, not the BSD asset sticker number.
