GoGuardian Restricted Access is a tool that limits students down to a preselected set of websites (mostly curriculum and tools). Individual students can be placed into the Restricted Access group at a building administrator's request.
Restricted Access is a single global setting group, meaning that all students in the group have the same allowed sites. All other sites are blocked. The district cannot individually allow sites for one student in the Restricted Access group while still blocking the site for other students in the group. Once the site is allowed, it is allowed for all. For that reason, the District is very cautious about what sites we allow. Sites considered part of the district curriculum are allowed.
An Example: If a sites used in a German class is considered part of the curriculum, and the site is only a curriculum sites, (not a site that includes non-curricular material) it would be allowed. YouTube is an example of a site with curricular and non-curricular material that would not be allowed to students in the Restricted group.
Teachers and building administration can submit sites to be considered for the Restricted Access group. The site is reviewed for non-curricular materials and then either allowed or denied based on the site's content.
The major issue students experience in the Restrict Access group is research. Students are not able to use Google search in the Restricted Access group as it can display non-curricular content. If a student is researching, many sites they may try to access for their research will be blocked. It can also cause issues in the classroom as students in the group are not always able to participate in class activities. Some websites a teacher may want a student to visit for supplemental learning may be blocked. The student will be given an alternative assignment.
An Example: If a student needs to watch an educational video on YouTube as part of an assignment, YouTube is blocked in the group as described above. The student would not be able to watch the video.
Parents and Teachers: Please contact your building administrator to request a student be added or removed from the Restricted Access group.
Building Administrators: Please submit a HelpDesk ticket to request a student be added or removed from the Restricted Access group.
